Jani-King (GB) Ltd, one of the UK’s leading franchise contract cleaning companies, has announced strong results for 2006. The company achieved a record profit of £1.4 million during 2006 following a self-funded restructuring programme. The company is also well on track to achieve its projected turnover of £14 million in 2007.
Jani-King’s strong performance is also reflected in the franchising sector as a whole. Annual sales and employment growth continue to outstrip that of the UK economy, and, as a whole, the franchising sector now contributes £10.8 billion of revenue to the economy.
The Jani-King UK franchise operation has a nationwide network of more than forty business franchise owners who service national contracts in their local area. The company offers bespoke solutions, utilising a range of specialist cleaning products, to meet the different needs and budgets of its customers. It services a diverse client base throughout the UK and is particularly strong in the leisure and retail sectors. Clients include leading retailers such as Superdrug, Next and H&M Hennes, as well as hotels, health clubs and cinema operators.
Paul Haworth, Managing Director commented: "These results represent an encouraging performance and a further strengthening of our market following a return to profit in 2005. Following a review of our business in 2006, the board took decisive steps to move to a national accounts strategy which has impacted positively on our growth this year.”
He added: “However, we are not complacent and recognise that in order to continue this success, we need to strengthen our national network of franchisees. Therefore, we have invested in the development of a new franchise recruitment process which will help us to identify entrepreneurs with the attributes and determination to achieve success.”
The results come as Jani King launched a campaign to call upon the franchising industry to clean up its practices for recruiting new franchisees.
“Companies who concentrate on quantity rather than quality are not only costing themselves dearly, but potentially putting the reputation of the whole industry at risk,” says Paul Haworth.
Jani-King launched its own new recruitment manual to leading figures in the industry at a luncheon at Claridge’s last month. Guests and business leaders from within the franchise industry and organisations including the CBI and IOD, enjoyed a 5-course Gordon Ramsey lunch and an in-depth roundtable discussion covering related topics.
Haworth concludes “We are very excited about our new recruitment process as we believe it will lead to the selection of more individuals with the attributes and determination to succeed in our business. It also demonstrates the seriousness with which we regard the Jani King brand image and corporate reputation. We wait to see how long it will be before other franchisors follow suit.”
