Auditel Consultant Charles Nishikawa to act as a Games Maker for the Olympics

03 July 2012

Charles Nishikawa arrived in the UK from Japan in 1990 and joined the Auditel Cost Management Consultancy Franchise in 2005. He has always had a keen interest in sports, especially table tennis.

Last month, he participated in the Olympics Table Tennis Test Event at east London’s Excel, which will also host judo, fencing, weightlifting, taekwondo and boxing. A group of six athletes selected by the British Olympic Association to represent Team GB were in action. Charles worked as one of the language team members, helping to translate the quotes from athletes when they had completed their game. He said: “This was an amazing experience!”

Keen to be more fully involved in the Olympics, Charles applied to LOCOG in autumn 2010 to volunteer as one of the 70,000 Games Makers among 240,000 other applicants. He was interviewed in February last year and finally selected in October. With contractors and LOCOG staff, there are 200,000 people working on the Games – the UK’s peace time biggest civilian mobilisation.

Charles reveals: “Other than table tennis, I have become a ‘born-again’ cyclist since the introduction of Boris Bikes!  With sustainability on the Games radar, I will commute to the Games on my bike. Being a Games Maker is a once in a life time experience and I can’t wait for the opening day!”
